Thanksgiving

Can you believe that next week is Thanksgiving?  It's my favorite holiday because it is a day that celebrates family, focuses on being thankful, and did I mention my love of pie.

 What are you thankful for?

I know you are not a big sweet eater, but what is your favorite Thanksgiving food?

  5. Dear Mrs. Levy,

I am your former student, Heather. I am now in Mrs. Yollis' class. We have a second and third split class. Have you ever taught a split class?

Today we just wrote (I typed mine) what we are thankful for. My title was: "What I'm Thankful For" and I typed a paragraph including a topic sentence, two main ideas, three or four details, and a conclusion. We used to do that a lot in your class.

I am thankful for four things. The first important thing I'm thankful for is my parents. The other thing I'm thankful for is Rocky (my dog). The second thing I'm thankful for is pumpkin pie, and the huge turkey with gravy on the top.

    Sincerely,
    Heather

    1. Heather,

I loved your comment. I'm thrilled that you shared your "thankful" paragraph, excellent use of transition words. To answer your question, I have never taught a split. How do you like it? Do you have any 3rd grade friends?

One thing I am thankful for is having wonderful students like you. You make it so that I look forward to going to school every morning! I'm also thankful for pumpkin pie! Yummy! Is it your favorite?

      Fondly,
      Mrs. Levy

    2. Dear Mrs. Levy,

Believe it or not we are in Heather's class. My friend Sean was not in your class, but we went to music together. Even though Mr. B is not here we are still having a great time in music class. Here is what we are thankful for.

Sean is thankful for family and friends. For example, I'm thankful for Collin because he plays handball and basketball with me. Collin is thankful for his parents and his dog Tahoe.

On Thanksgiving we both are always waiting for the delicious pumpkin pie.

      Sincerely,
C♣llin your former former student and,Se♣

    3. Awesome comments Collin and Sean.

I liked how in your comment you gave details about what both of you are thankful for. I believe Mrs. Yollis says that's part of composing a "quality comment." Mrs. Yollis' video post on commenting.

I am thankful that I work at such an amazing school with teachers, like Mrs. Yollis and students like both of you.

Happy Thanksgiving! (Notice how I only put one exclamation mark, Mrs. Yollis taught me that.)

      Fondly,
      Mrs. Levy

  21. I am thankful for so many things in my life! We are so lucky to have water, food, shelter, and of course, family and friends. Without my family and my friends, I would not be the same person I am today. Thanksgiving is a holiday that I use to reflect on what I am thankful for, and try to appreciate the little things that we do not usually think about. I'm excited for Thanksgiving and hope you all have an amazing holiday!

  22. Hi everyone! I am thankful to my family for providing me with support, care, and love. It's unfortunate to see people who don't have family. I would not be who I am today if it wasn't for my family's upbringing on me. Thanksgiving is a great way to give recognition to the things that are significant in our lives! It is also a good time to give back to the community.I hope that everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving!

  26. Happy Thanksgiving,
I am thankful for snow, because you can do so many things in it, like snowboarding, sledding, and snowball fights. But especially snowboarding. I also love all the food I get to have on Thanksgiving and finding room for that one last piece of pie even though i know there is no more room in my stomach.

  27. Hi everyone. Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful for my family, my amazing friends, my dog, spending the holidays with the people I love, having you guys as our pen pals, and every little thing in between. One of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving has to be spending the day before cooking with my parents. Eating the food is so much more rewarding when you helped make it. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving :)

  31. Hi everyone! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! Even though the pie and turkey add to the holiday, my favorite part is spending time with my family. My grandparents and my uncle and his family live within about five minutes of each other. Because of this we always go to my uncle's house for the week of thanksgiving and everyone sleeps at either my uncle's house or my grandparent's house and goes back and forth between the two for the entire week. Does your family have any unique traditions?

  36. Hi Nicholas its your pen pal Joe Guss. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because of the great food and the 50+ people that come over to eat! I am very thankful for my friends, family, health, and of course the food. Although it may sound weird, I am thankful for Thanksgiving because it gives me the chance to meet up with all the family and friends that I have not seen in so long and I get to spend the day with them. Thanksgiving is a great holiday and I look forward to it each year.

    1. Joe,
I am thankful for love. I spend time with my family on Thanksgiving. All our cousins and aunts and uncles and my grandpa come over and my mom cooks dinner. It's so much fun, all the cousins play together. Sometimes all the kids write and perform a Thanksgiving play for the grown ups. I love the turkey!

  39. Dear Mrs. Levy,

I'm thankful for shelter, food, and clean water. Did you know that the Pilgrims sailed the MayFlower in 1620? Why do you like Thanksgiving? I like that my whole family gets to come together. :)

    1. Thanks for the comment Abbey. I also love getting together with family on Thanksgiving. Mr. Levy is a wonderful cook, so I also enjoy sitting down to the big turkey feast.

It's hard to imagine what life was like for the Pilgrims in 1620, lots of hard work.
