Challenges

Whew, I made it!  Today was my last day of the February fitness challenge.  For the past 29 days  I challenged myself to swim as much as I could. I finished with a final total of swimming 73,000 yards for the month (a little over 40 miles.)   I'll admit some days I did not want to swim, I would have much rather stayed home and watched T.V. or read a book. But that is the thing with challenges - they are a test to see what you are able to do.

At school I see boys and girls challenge themselves all the time.  In Room 125 subtracting numbers is a big challenge for some people and for others it's "easy peasy lemon squeezy."  For some, writing one sentence in our journal is a challenge. But each week I see more and more students write longer and longer journal entries. Today at school we kicked off the March Health Challenge.  Calendars were sent home with a healthy idea for each day of March.  Tomorrow our challenge is to do 50 jumping jacks and eat a piece of fruit.  Can you do that?

It's fun and exciting to see what you can do, when you challenge yourself.
As Dr. Seuss wrote, "You're off the Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So...get on your way!"

Have you ever challenged yourself?

What is your biggest challenge?

  1. Congrats on your February challenge! That is awesome!! Mason is starting to run with her brother and I on the weekends at the Calabasas High School track. She is getting ready for the Great Race of Agoura, where she will try to beat her time from last year's 1 mile run. Mason's biggest physical challenge to date was rock climbing in Colorado. She was very scared of the heights at first but worked and worked at it for days till she reached the top and rang the bell. She was SO PROUD! :-) - Mason's Mama

  2. "That must have been tiring Mrs. Levy! I hope you had a good time on your challenge. My biggest challenge is I am working on getting to my black belt in karate!" explained Colin.

  3. Thanks for the comments, Colin and Mason!

Rock climbing and getting a black belt are both great challenges. I am also a little afraid of heights and getting a black belt takes many years of training! Good for you both.

  6. Hey pen pals!
My biggest challenge was when I tried out for the school tennis team this year. I was really scared I woil don't make it but I conquered my fear and tried out anyways. I'm so happy I did. I made the team and even though it's challenging to train and run around I've made a lot of friends!

  7. Hi pen pals!

My biggest challenge was earning my black belt in karate. I had trained a for so many months (running five miles every week, boxing, sparring, etc.) Even though it was challenging and difficult at times to train, I was so happy that I never gave up on my goal!

  8. I am currently experiencing one of my biggest challenges; I have a huge piano evaluation at the end of March. I have to play three piano pieces, two of which I'm still learning, and take a test on music theory. Wish me luck!

  9. Hi Pen Pals,
Congratulations on your fitness challenge Mrs. Levy! A challenge that I am going through now is preparing for a concert that I have. In the concert I play the bassoon which is a really long wind instrument. I hope you all are able to conquer your challenges now and in the future.

I agree that challenging yourself is a great idea because without challenging yourself, you wont be able to accomplish your goals. I try my best to challenge myself everyday.

  14. Hey Pen Pals,
My biggest challenge (like many others apparently!) was getting my black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I am currently working towards my black belt in Jujitsu. Always work hard to achieve your goals no matter how hard they may seem!

  15. Hi Everyone!
Everyday I challenge myself to be the best person I can be no matter what I am doing. I always try to put all of my effort into school and classwork and that is a challenge for me. High school is tough but if you put in the work it's not that bad. Can't wait to see you soon!

  20. Congratulations Mrs. Levy on a job well done - 40 miles is quite impressive! My biggest challenge is recovering from shoulder surgery and coming back slowly. I want to be able to run, bike, and swim again so I am being a very good girl, which is a major challenge for me! Mrs. McEvoy
