Alcatraz Swim

This past Sunday Mr and Mrs. Levy swam the Alcatraz Touch n Go Challenge.  In this race, we swam to Alcatraz Island, touched a boat  anchored off the shore of the island and then swam back to San Francisco, Aquatic Park.  It was an amazing loooooooong swim.  As the fog lifted I could see Alcatraz and San Francisco from the water.  Here is some video from the event.

Mr. Levy is #7 and Mrs. Levy is #8.    The first girl to touch is 11 years old :-)

  2. Dear Mrs. Levy,

I could not belive that you can swim so far. About how ong did it take? Could you see the Golden Gate Bridge? I was also wondering if I can come to your class and show your stundents how to leave a great comment?

  3. Wow! That is an amazing swim! Was the water freezing cold? I'm wondering, along with your former student above, how long did it take to swim 1 way? It does not appear you had any time to rest before you had to swim back. Is that true? Where was Max during this time? You are obviously in remarkable shape. Congratulations!!! It must have been a great feeling to touch that boat and then swim back to shore.

  4. Thanks for the great comments Nicholas, Collin, and Gayle. It took me about an hour and 18 minutes. The water temperature was around 62 which is didn't feel too cold, because it was warmer than the air temperature.

Yes Collin, I was planning on talking to Mrs. Yollis about maybe having your class help us with comments! I'll keep you posted :-)

    Swimmingly,
    Mrs. Levy

  5. Dear Mrs. Levy,
We all think you are a superstar! That water is COLD and that is a very long swim. How did you get into swimming these long distance ocean swims? Did you always love swimming in the ocean? And how do you train for such an event?
    With admiration,
    Allie and family

  6. Hi Mrs. Levy - I miss you! We watched the video of your race. Good job. Were you tired after that long swim? Did you see any sharks or other animals? I'm glad you are alright. Congratulations for finishing your swim. - Colin M. (your student from last year)

  7. Thanks Colin! I miss you too! I was tired but very happy when I was done. I didn't see any sharks, but Mr. Levy hit some jelly fish. Fortunately, he didn't get stung. What have you been learning about in second grade?

    Fondly,
    Mrs. Levy
